Morning drive to Polonnaruwa Ruin City and visit all the UNESCO protected sites, including "Parakrama Samuddra" lake, back to Minneria National Park, and explore the park in the evening. You will witness herds of Elephants in 100's of numbers.

Elephant Orphanage

Day 01


Meet pick and drive to Pinnawela. The Elephant Orphanage is a sanctuary for rescued, injured or abused elephants and attracts visitors from all over the world to view these magnificent animals. Around 80 elephants have found homes at Pinnawala, including some small babies who have been born into the herd. See baby elephant wondering around their cramped foster home or bottle fed and bathed by their human foster fathers at Pinnawala, about 90Km from Colombo towards Kandy is the home to some 60 or more elephant orphans. A place you will really enjoy and never forget. Most orphans are accustomed to their curious human visitors are harmless.
En route stop at Dambulla Rock Temple. Although the surrounding areas have been documented to possess more than 80 different caves, basically five distinct caves constitute the Dambulla Cave Temple whose history dates back to the 1st century BC.Out of these five, the most important includes the Cave of the Great Kings, the Cave of the Divine King and the Great New Monastery. All of these functioned as shrines, housing various statues and sculptures belonging to the Sinhala period. In all, there are 153 statues, the most eminent being those of Buddha, which vary greatly in altitude and size, with the largest one being about 15 meters in length. One of the caves boasts more than 1,500 Buddha paintings and frescos, covering the entire ceiling and walls, reciting the story of Buddha’s life. Some statues are found to depict the Hindu Gods Ganesha and Vishnu as well. The total area covered by these caves is 2,000sqm.

Drive to Aukkana, and visit the Sri Lanka's tallest standing Buddha statue, and Kala wewa rain water reservoir. Proceed to Anuradhapura.
Visit all the ruin sites in Anuradapura, It is believed that from the 4th century BC, it was the Kingdom until the beginning of the 11th century AD. During this period it remained one of the most stable and durable centers of political power and urban life in South Asia. The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhist world, is today surrounded by monasteries covering an area of over sixteen square miles (40 km²).
Evening during sun set, visit Mihintale Rock Temple and proceed to the same hotel in Sigiria.

Morning climb Sigiria Lion Rock, One of Asia's major archaeological sites, Sigiriya presents a unique concentration of fifth-century urban planning, architecture, gardening, engineering, hydraulic technology and art. Centred on a massive rock rising 200 meters above the surrounding plain, Sigiriya s location is one of considerable natural beauty and historical interest. An area of ancient settlement lying between the historic capitals of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruva, the Sigiriya plain still retains much of its forest cover, and many of its present village settlements and man-made village reservoirs date back to the first millennium B.C. In its present form, Sigiriya itself is essentially a walled-and-moated royal capital of the fifth century A.D., with a palace complex on top of the rock, elaborate pleasure gardens, extensive moats and ramparts, and the well-known paintings on the western face of the rock.

Take a drive to Kandy, en route stop at a Spice and Herbal Garden. , Sri Lanka has long been renowned for its spices, and the best known is Cinnamon. During 15th Centuries, Spice and ivory traders from all over the world reached this Island with their native cuisines to the Island resulting in rich diversity of cooking styles.
The Temple of the Tooth or Sri Dalada Maligawa is a temple in the city of Kandy in Sri Lanka. It was built within the royal palace complex, which houses the only surviving relic of Buddha, which is venerated by Buddhists. The relic, which is situated in the Temple of the Tooth, played an important role in local politics since ancient times; it’s believed that whoever holds the Temple of the Tooth relic holds the governance of the country, which naturally caused the ancient kings to protect the Temple of the Tooth with great effort! Kandy was the capital of the Sinhalese kings.
City tour including a visit to Gem Museum and Lapidary, Then visit Royal Botanical Garden in Kandy, noted for its rich and varied collections of tropical woody plants. Occupying 59 hectares (146 acres), it has about 4,000 species of plants. The most important specimens of the garden include palms, some of which are planted in impressive avenues. Significant, too, are the collections of orchids, gymnosperms, and flowering trees. It is renowned for the collection the variety of Orchids, and has more than 300 varieties of Orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palms trees attach it is the National Herbarium. The derivation of Peradeniya botanical garden runs as far as the kingdom of King Vickramabahu 111. And the court was built in Peradeniya near the Mahaweli River. The same location was followed by King Kirti Sri Rajasinghe (1747-1780) who made a Royal Garden here and King Rajadhi Rajasinghe (1780-1798) dwelled here who came to power after the King Kirti Sri Rajasinghe.
By 5:30 in the evening Cultural Dance show Kandy comprises with impressive Sri Lankan traditional dancing styles and fireworks.

Proceed to Polonnaruwa, The second Kingdom of Sri Lanka declared by king Vijayabahu, who defeated the Chola invaders in 1070. Victory and shifting of kingdoms to the more strategic Polonnaruwa is considered significant, the real “Hero of Polonnaruwa” of the history books is actually Prakramabahu. It was his reign that is considered the Golden Age of Polonnaruwa, trade and agriculture flourished under the patronage of the king, who was so adamant that no drop of water falling from the heavens was to be wasted. There you see the giant lake which is called as Sea of Prakrama.

It is situated in the southeast region of the country, and lies in Southern Province and Uva Province. The park covers 979 square kilometers (378 sq mi) and is located about 24km northeast of Tissamaharama and 300 km (190 mi) from Colombo. Yala West or Ruhuna National Park is now well recognized for the best park in the world to observe and photograph leopards. There are about 35 leopards in the park which probably is the highest density than anywhere in the world. The male leopards are fearless and walking along side to jeep. It is possible to take one day jeep-safari trip through the park and see many mammals, reptiles and birds.

Horton Plains National Park is a national park in the highlands of Sri Lanka. It lies about 20 kilometers south of Nuwara Eliya and 20 kilometers west of Haputale, 2000 meters above sea level among the second and third tallest mountains in Sri Lanka - Kirigalpotta and Totapola. The average temperature in this area is about 16 C. With high winds in the evening it can be quite chilly. The park covers 31.60 km², and is a mixture of highland forest and wet grassland. This is the only National Park in Sri Lanka where visitors are allowed to walk on their own on the designated tracks. Sambar is the most common animal in the plains but wild boars and leopards too can be found in this area, In horton plains you can visit the worlds end which is a 4000 feet straight vertical drop.
